OOTD

Love doing Outfit Of The Day posts :)

So it's almost summer [yay], but it was a little gloomy today, so here's the cute outfit I came up with for today. I got a lot of compliments from my female students :)

Black skinny jeans, white tank, tan boots, and my new nautical blazer from H&M:

Hope you all have a good Memorial Day weekend!

Observations= New Teaching Tool

Hello everyone!
Once a year, our school cancels learning labs on a Monday and lets us go observe another teacher in any school/district we'd like.

So today I went to observe a friend that teaches Math at a middle school. Even though I teach English, I found a lot of useful tips I can use in my own classroom. I observed her Math support class, and found one major thing I'm going to use in my English Support class.

Even though I teach high school, I am going to institute a Binder Check in my Support class. Here is a pic of my friend's class' Binder Check sheet:

I am going to adapt this a little bit for more of a high school feel, but I like the accountability concept. A lot of my students struggle simply because they are not organized, and this is one way I can help keep them accountable.

It's so exciting to get to see what other teachers do and see how it can be implemented in my own classroom. LOVE COLLABORATION!

A Couple of Crazy Days with the San Diego Fires & Testing

Let me start by saying that everyone I know is safe; that's the most important part.

It started when I left Wednesday around 10:45am to go to my nail appointment [school was already done for the week because of State Testing] and I saw smoke when I left my complex. The fire was in Carlsbad, about 3 miles from my parents house; they thankfully did not have to evacuate. My grandma, however, did have to evacuate her home in San Marcos, but was able to go home yesterday.

What touched me the most was that I actually had a few students text me to ask me if I was ok. I could not believe that they would even think to ask that with everything going on; I was so surprised. What's even better is that they are students from a few years ago, still at our school, but they still care. That has always been my goal as a teacher-to be someone kids can go to if they need something and know that I'm there for them. And Thursday, that care was returned. It makes me happy to be a teacher and know that these kids know I care about them.

For those that are interested, I've uploaded a picture taken from my patio Thursday morning before it got really bad :/
[And this was just before that whole ridge there was engulfed in black :( ]

And now, just wanted to share a few pics of the cute messages I did for my students for testing day. We used to do a week of testing, but now with the transition of Common Core, we only had a day of testing this past week [Tuesday seems like a lifetime ago with everything that has been going on].

As you know, I made this cute little note:

And then I hole-punched it and tied it to a bag of Chips-Ahoy cookies.

And then put them on the desks for when the students came in.

The kids thanked me and liked the treat, and hopefully all did well on the test! :)

Well.....I hope everyone has a good Saturday and please keep praying for our firefighters and first responders who have been working for FOUR DAYS STRAIGHT now to fight the fires around the community.

Take Care,

End of the Year goodie for your TA

It's almost the end of the school year! Can you contain your excitement?!?!

I don't know about you, but our school let's our students be TAs [Teaching Assistants] for school credit or community service hours. I have 3 this year...yup...3 classes I can have students pass back papers, grade multiple choice quizzes, run extra copies for me...it's GREAT!!

And even though they're getting a grade or community service hours, I still want to give them a small thank you. So I made these cute tags and am going to attach a little gift with each one. Here's a preview of the tags:

And below are some pairing ideas:
1) For the "tea"riffic one-
-Pair with a Starbucks gift card and a Dollar Store mug
-Works for a girl or a guy-
*More ideas in the download

2) Thanks for the "helping hand" one-
-Pair with a yummy lotion or soap
*More ideas in the download

I'm so excited to give these out this year! Just head on over to my TPT Store to download this TA Gift Tag set. It contains: a word doc version, a PDF version, and a list of pairing ideas. What's cool is that you can just print it off as is, and sign your name in the white heart...easy peasy :)

Hold on for a few more weeks everyone!!! Good luck!
