Grammar Warm Ups

Yay grammar!!

So I started my English Support class this semester [this is the first week] and my plan is to have them do some grammar warm ups every morning. I'm not a huge fan of just sitting there and teaching grammar. I plan to teach grammar as we do the warm up...for example: if the warm up covers capitalization and punctuation, I'll explain why the answers are what they are, as we review the answers. Eventually, I'm going to use sentences from books we read, or papers they write [without using names of course] so they can see "real world" application of grammar :)

So here are two Brain Ticklers grammar warm ups [It's two pages of sentences]. Enjoy!!

Have a great day!

Bad Blogger & New School Year [sort of]

I've been a bad blogger! I haven't posted in almost a month...but I have a very good excuse! The dog ate my homework :) Just kidding. But I have been busy. We had finals in January and for us, that's the end of the school year, and then we start over again this week with a whole new set of kids as if it's the first day of school again.

So I decided to do a new "first day of school" activity this semester. I had the kids make an Acrostic Poem with their first names, and then that first initial, alliteration with their first name, becomes part of their name for the class.

For example:
If I were a student, I would be Magical Ms. Wolters :)

Here's one a student did:
She changed hers a little to become Cheerful Carly...

It's actually kind of fun and it surprisingly helped me remember ALL their names on the first day!!!! It also creates a sense of community in the classroom to have these nicknames and everyone feels silly so it's a lot of fun!

Just thought it was a fun first day of school activity to share :)

More fun stuff coming soon...promise! No more waiting four weeks!!

Happy New Year & January Currently

Happy New Year everyone! I hope 2013 will be a great year for all you :) I usually don't make New Year's Resolutions because, let's be honest, does anyone actually keep them?! But I am going to say that I am going to try to come up with more creative classroom ideas to blog about this year :) Does that count as a resolution? I hope so!

It's time again for another Currently from Oh Boy 4th Grade! Love her blog and wish I was as talented as her...I'll get there someday!

I hope everyone enjoys their last little bit of break before going back to school. Remember to come back refreshed, excited, and dedicated to teaching. We do it because we love it and we love them!

Happy 2013!!!!!
